Chris's Newton Icons Read Me
8/18/93
Chris Holmes
Icons based on the Newton logo and Newton MessagePad. All are in the
approved 32 Apple colors so they won't highlight strangely.
I think I've got some more cool icons (personally, mine are the best) on
Planet BMUG and the Boston BMUG BBS. Freeware, so have at 'em!

[*] AddUserDict.hqx
This is just a test Newton utility. All it does is do mass User
Dictionary additions.
The Newton has a lot of potential, but the dictionary in the
MessagePad is appalling. Having to type stuff in all the time is a drag
and then it asks you if you want to add it to the dictionary. A real
drag! AddUserDict is a little Newton application that allows multiple
additions in one go. It will improve in the future, but here is what it
does for now.
Launch the application. Input into the text field and hit the button.
It's as simple as that. You can try to write neatly (as the dictionary is
turned off in the field) or, as I suggest, use the keyboard. Even better,
you can paste into the field so import a list of words into your Notes
using the Connection Kit and copy it over. This saves a lot of tapping.
Note: You can do multiple words but they must be broken by spaces! -NOT
tabs or carriage returns! (yet) Also, any punctuation will go in so make
careful lists.
Expect to see new features soon, including a keyboard button, an
Assist feature, deleting, printing, direct import from Excel, dictionary
software and your local mainframe. I will have some useful word lists
prepared soon and on their way. Tell me what you think about this first
attempt and what else you think it needs.
I know you are dying to send me money, but hold on to it for the
moment, we need to get something a little more worthwhile together first.
But, either way you get something immensly useful for incredibly cheap.
Have fun and happy scratching.

[*] DecoClock.pkg
AUTHOR: Rob Hafernik
EQUIPMENT: Newton
NEEDS: 8K of memory
This package puts clock icon in your extras drawer. Tap it and a nice
clock takes over your screen, covering everything else. The clock only
updates every 20 seconds or so, so it lets the processor sleep a lot,
saving some on battery power. While it's running your Newton WILL NOT
SLEEP. This means you can leave the clock running at your desk while
the Newt is plugged in or in a meeting when you want it awake all the
time and it won't go to sleep on you.
